Developing sustainable materials is our expertise

We upgrade by-products from steel production and extract natural materials sustainably, driven by a clear ambition: to be a zero-waste company in everything we do. We strive for optimal (re)use of materials, both within and beyond our company. That’s why we place a strong focus on research and development. The innovative technologies we develop are applied within our own operations, but we are just as eager to implement them in other companies as well.

The pillars of our company

  • Sustainable products

We provide as many alternatives as possible for scarce natural resources. We process residual fractions from other industries into new, valuable materials and raw materials, helping to close the loop.

  • Collaboration

We work closely and structurally with other companies. For example, we recover metals from residual fractions generated during metal production, which are then reused as raw materials by metal producers.

  • Smart valorization

The mineral fraction that remains after metal recovery is processed into new, valuable raw materials and products. This includes the production of Stinox® and Carbogran® aggregates, Fillinox® filler, and Carbinox® binder.

  • Circular production

We apply closed-loop, sustainable production principles in our own processes. For instance, we continuously reuse water needed for our production. In everything we do, we aim to be a zero-waste company.

  • Innovation

We continuously seek new technologies to optimize our processes and those of our customers. For every type of industrial by-product, we strive to find a suitable application and valorization process our carbonation technology carbonation technology is a perfect example of this.

  • Quality

All our products undergo extensive laboratory testing for quality and safety before being certified. They comply with applicable regulations and are each guaranteed to be environmentally compliant. Our Genk site is ISO 9001 (2015) certified for processing stainless steel slags and furnace debris. Our Farciennes site is ISO 9001 (2015, 2018) certified for processing steel industry waste and carbonation activities.

  • Respect for people and the environment

We invest in infrastructure and processes that have a minimal impact on the environment. To achieve this, we collaborate with partners, researchers, governments, and local communities. Our own employees also uphold strict environmental and safety standards. The alternative raw materials are produced at our manufacturing sites in Genk and Charleroi. Our Genk site is ISO 14001 (2015) certified for processing stainless steel slags. Our Farciennes site is ISO 14001 (2015) and ISO 45001 (2018) certified for processing steel industry waste and carbonation activities.

  • Thoughtful and environmentally friendly logistics

We prioritize inland waterway transport over road transport, ensuring our customers and partners benefit from a door-to-door service, including storage and transshipment solutions.

Our Commitment: Quality, Safety, and Sustainability

At Orbix, we are fully committed to a safe and healthy working environment, sustainable innovation, and the highest quality standards. Our activities—from metal recovery and carbonation to residual stream valorization — are deeply rooted in a circular vision and a drive for zero waste.

These core values are the foundation of our policies and certifications (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001). We are dedicated to continuous improvement, risk management, and actively involving our employees and partners in this process.

Our history

Since 1994, Orbix has been developing and selling sustainable raw materials and technologies for the construction and steel industries. We also provide supportive logistics services to our customers and partners.

Until recently, we operated under the TRC (Trading and Recycling Company) name and through our subsidiaries Recmix, Recoval, Elzasel, and Sprimont Blue. However, since 2016, we have continued under the name Orbix—a name inspired by the Latin word "orbis," meaning "circle," perfectly aligning with our belief in the circular economy.

Our headquarters are in Genk, where we produce various raw materials from residual fractions and natural sources while developing innovative solutions to extend the lifespan of raw materials. Find an overview of our other locations here.
